In early 2021, immigrant demolition construction workers from Cabrican, Guatemala, approached LWC because they were victims of abusive bosses. The workers decided to organize because they had to endure abuses in the workplace such as wage theft, lack of adequate PPE at work, especially important when working in old-building demolitions, no access to paid sick leave or health assistance and an irregular schedule. The workers, many who are indigenous people from Guatemala, started to come to meetings with LWC and eventually started their leadership training at the Leadership Institute. Although the workers have approached their managers and bosses, their workplace conditions have not improved.

Following up on the nationwide Black Friday walkouts Amazon workers at the MDW2 cross-dock facility in Joliet staged the facility’s second walkout in two months. Once again, workers walked out to demand fair pay, safe working conditions, and respect at work and pledged to continue taking action until management comes to the table ready to meaningfully improve working conditions at the warehouse.
This action is a direct result of the successful Prime Day walkout in October where over 50 workers gathered together with friends and allies from across the community to demand better from one of the world’s richest companies.

Stand with injured migrant workers in Ontario with FCWA member Justicia for Migrant Workers. Support J4MW’s call for both provincial and federal governments to implement immediate changes to end the injustices faced by those who put food on our table. These include workplace protections – both in legislation and in practice; income supports; an overhaul of its employment, health and safety, fair compensation and respect from the WSIB, and housing legislation to better protect workers; permanent status on arrival and ending the practice of repatriating and deporting migrants, especially those who are sick or injured

On Wednesday, November 23, dairy workers are rallying in Vermont to demand that Hannaford Markets join the Milk With Dignity Program!
Farmworkers and allies have called on Hannaford to join Milk with Dignity and protect farmworker rights and dignity for more than 2 years. Despite dozens of actions and thousands of calls and emails, the company continues to avoid responsibility. This means that the company hasn’t yet felt enough pressure.
You can put pressure on Hannaford by joining the action in person, using this toolkit or by leaving comments on their official facebook page in support of workers!

Today, we are asking you to once again join us in opposing the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (FWMA). Our members in the U.S. agricultural sector collectively represent 16,000 farmworkers, and they have been steadfast in their opposition to FWMA since it was first introduced in 2019 under the Trump Administration. Now it is dangerously close to passing in the Senate once again.
FWMA is an anti-labor bill that will set back farmworkers’ rights for generations. If passed, it would expand E-Verify and a flawed H-2A program while tying the possibility of immigration status to eight years of exploitation. Big corporations in the agriculture industry say they need this bill to deal with labor shortages and rising food costs, but the truth is, they’re the ones responsible for these so-called problems. There wouldn’t be a shortage if employers paid workers a living wage and offered safe working conditions.
CLICK HERE to call your Senator today and tell them to OPPOSE the Farm Workforce Modernization Act.

For the past two years, C2C has been pushing the Bellingham to create a city-funded Immigrant Resource Center. In addition to a formal process with the govt, a community art campaign entitled #MigrationMakesUsStronger installed thousands of origami butterflies in city hall. After a year of organizing and working with the city, the mayor failed to include the Center in the new budget, and the City Council has voted AGAINST funding the center. But this fight is not over, and community members are asking for public support.
Please email the City Council today at ccmail@cob.org to encourage them to listen to immigrants in their community and support their most vulnerable neighbors.
While emails are the most critical action now, you can also sign a petition here: https://chng.it/VmhF476jst
