Lawmakers have moved to end a nearly 70-year-old state exemption on farmworkers getting overtime after eight hours of labor or 40 hours a week. The bill has passed the state Legislature, and now needs the signature of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Farm interests are lobbying the governor to veto the bill, arguing that it could make California’s industry – one of the world’s biggest – less competitive.
