14nov12:00 pm- 1:30 pmMarch on ICE! / Marcha contra las deportaciones!

Event Details

Eli Calvo is a free man, reunited with his family and community. After weeks of imprisonment — withstanding hunger and cold, sleeping on a cot in the overfilled prison’s cafeteria — Eli is now back in Vermont, thanks to the support of hundreds of fellow farmworkers and allies who demanded his release. Sí se puede!

Yet Eli is not alone. He is one of 40 Migrant Justice members detained by ICE and Border Patrol in recent years. An average of one farmworker a week is arrested by deportation agents in Vermont. The persecution of immigrants must end!

For years, we have been in the streets and on the airwaves, fighting back against deportation and the criminalization of immigrants. Mass campaigns have won the release of many detained community members, but sadly, they are the exception to the rule: the vast majority of immigrants swept up by ICE are deported, separated from their communities and families. It is time to escalate our resistance.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, we will be taking an important step to bring this struggle to the next level. Join us at 12pm at the Migrant Justice office (S. Winooski Ave. and King St., Burlington, VT) to march on the federal courthouse and say #YaBastaICE.

Can’t make it to the march?  Follow the action on a livestream from Migrant Justice’s facebook account, starting around 12:45pm.

March from the Migrant Justice office (S. Winooski Ave. and King St.) to the federal building (Pearl St. and Elmwood Ave.) to demand #Not1Moredeportation and an end to the targeting of immigrants.

Farmworker Eli Calvo was arrested two weeks ago at a gas station near his farm — despite having already been released by an immigration judge. After a mass campaign demanding Freedom for Eli, he is once more being released!

Yet the attacks continue. ICE and Border Patrol terrorize immigrant communities; in Vermont, every week sees another immigrant farmworker detained — at a store, in the street, or on the farm — and thrown into deportation. Migrant Justice members like Eli have been especially targeted. The persecution of immigrants must end!
