Millions of food workers around the world struggle to make a living each day. In the U.S. alone, nearly 20 million people work in the food system, growing, processing, transporting, serving, cooking, & selling the food that we eat each day. Show your solidarity & support for food workers by taking part in activities & events happening across the country on this third International Food Workers Week, organized by the Food Chain Workers Alliance.

We have developed discussion guides with suggested homework assignments for middle school students and high school students that list the Common Core English Language Arts Standards that the comic book and discussion guides address. We also have a discussion guide for adults.

Food Worker Heroes
The Food Chain Workers Alliance has created a series of four short videos called Food Worker Heroes, to highlight the workers we depend on for our food every day. Watch Martha, a Walmart worker; Constantine, a street food vendor; Bakari, a warehouse worker; Pedro, a meatpacking worker; and Gualberto, a farmworker (shown below).
Farmworker Stories: An Oral History of the Farmworkers of New York
In the summer of 2014, 2 college interns traveled from Long Island to the Finger Lakes to collect stories from a diversity of farmworkers in New York State. The short films were launched on Food Day, Oct. 24, 2014, and are on the Rural & Migrant Ministry blog, Witness.
Fair Food Series
“Fair Food: Field to Table” is a multi-media presentation promoting a more socially just food system in the U.S. It was created by California Institute for Rural Studies and Rick Nahmias Photography and features members of the Alliance, among others. Through the stories and voices of farmworkers, growers, businesses and fair food advocates, learn about the harsh realities of farmworker conditions and, more importantly, the promise of improved farm labor practices in American agriculture. The growing movement for “fair food” is tapping into rising consumer demand for food produced in accordance with their values.
Living Off Tips
The corporate restaurant industry has kept the federal tipped minimum wage at $2.13 since 1991, and they’re fighting to keep it as low as possible everywhere else.
