For International Workers’ Day 2026, we’re thinking about our comrade and legendary NYC organizer Mahoma Garfías Lopez, our community members suffering in ICE detention, and the constant exploitation of 28 million workers in the U.S. food system.
Yesterday, FCWA staff hit the streets: we were in Los Angeles, CA with members WECN-LA and UFCW Local 770; in Syracuse, NY with members the Workers’ Center of Central NY; in Columbia, SC with allies the National Domestic Workers Alliance; and in Portland, OR with members Burgerville Workers Union and New Seasons Labor Union — joining tens of thousands of people across the U.S. who came out to represent their unions, worker centers, community organizations, or simply their values of people over profit.
Among so many other priorities of our movement, this year we’re focused on protecting the right to organize; opposing expansion of exploitative guest worker programs like H-2A in the U.S. and TFWP in Canada; getting ICE out of our communities; heeding the call of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions; and sounding the alarm about heat stress and the lack of protections for workers exposed to extreme temperatures on the job.
