Statement from the Food Chain Workers Alliance (FCWA) on U.S. Government Persecution of The People’s Forum |
For nearly a decade, The People’s Forum has been a bastion of solidarity and assistance to liberatory movements and activists. From assisting the movement for Palestinian liberation, to delivering mutual aid to Cuba amidst the genocidal oil blockade, to the domestic struggle against ICE kidnapping and murders, to finding space to assist movements and groups far and wide — including FCWA — in building towards justice, they are in their own words, a true “movement incubator.”
It is precisely for this that the Trump regime has sought to undermine them.
In September 2025, the Justice Department began to aggressively investigate leftist groups. In 2026, Washington began “Operation Puppet Master” an effort to surveil immigrant rights groups. Soon after, they prosecuted activists in Minnesota and Texas with penalties up to 100 years in prison for “obstructing ICE” via civil disobedience. In August, court disclosures revealed mass surveillance of the AFL-CIO, SEIU and other unions. Finally, this summer the Trump regime explicitly announced it would target what it deemed “enemies of civilization — namely groups identified by their anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist stance, as well as groups that stood in solidarity with Palestine and Cuba.
It’s in this context that the attack on the People’s Forum is taking place. In February of this year, the State Department labeled it a “vector of foreign influence.” In July, the House Ways and Means Committee issued a formal compulsory subpoena against the People’s Forum, demanding all internal communications with activists and marginalized groups. On August 7th, The People’s Forum formally submitted its formal legal objection, rejecting the Trump regime’s efforts to criminalize political dissent.
The Food Chain Workers Alliance emphatically stands in solidarity with the Peoples Forum against this modern Red Scare.
We categorically reject any and all efforts to intimidate and subjugate its activists, and call on our members and the public at large to offer their own support and answer any call to action by The People’s Forum in its defense.
