FCWA @ Labor Notes

Thirteen FCWA members showed out for food workers at at the biennial Labor Notes Conference in Chicago this month, making connections and speaking on panels. Huge thanks to everyone who made our attendance possible, including the awesome team at LN!

Member Panels at the Conference:

In a joint FCWA panel, Justice for Migrant Workers (Ontario, Canada), Familias Unidas por la Justicia (Burlington, WA) & the Workers’ Center of Central New York (Syracuse, NY) hosted Fighting Abusive Guest Worker Programs, discussing the H-2A program in the U.S. and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) in Canada.

Meanwhile:

Venceremos (Sprindale, AR) led three sessions:

  • Teatro de los oprimados/Theater of the Oppressed
  • Secretos de un organizador extoso: Convertir una problema en una campaña / Secrets of a Successful Organizer: Converting a Problem into a Campaign.
  • ¡Basta Ya! Nos fuimos a huelga!/Enough! We’re going on strike!

UFCW Local 770 (Los Angeles, CA) spoke on Buliding Power in Grocery and Meatpacking.

Warehouse Workers For Justice (Joliet, IL) facilitated Organizing Across Language Divides.

& New Seasons Labor Union (Portland, OR) spoke on Keeping the Momentum in a First Contract Fight.
