Event Details
The tide is turning in Albany and we can all feel it. Rural & Migrant Ministry and the Justice for Farmworkers Legislative Campaign would like to invite you to join us on January 17, 2018 from 10am to 2pm in the state capitol for the Farmworker Fair Labor Human Rights Hearing. A panel of human rights observers will be listening to the testimonies of ten courageous New York State farmworkers. The human rights observers will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the farmworkers. By the end of the hearing, the human rights observers will provide the audience and New York State with their observations and recommendations. Current Human Rights Observers include: Sam Waterston (actor, Law and Order), Tom Gerety (former Executive Director of the Brennan Center for Justice).
We have folks across the state helping get the testimonies and confirmations on those brave farmworkers who will be giving their testimony in public on the 17th next month.
We need you in the audience and we need as many of your contacts in the audience. We need to fill out the WELL in the Legislative Office Building in order to let our state legislators know that this is an issue that is dear to everyone’s heart and make a statement that farmworkers have allies and friends across the state.
Join us! We will have buses leaving from New York City, Long Island, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley and Western NY.
